The story behind the name
The Rose label was designed in partnership with the Helpmann Academy when the opportunity was presented to an emerging young artist to have their artwork on the label of our new Portia Valley Grenache Rose. The inaugural winner was University of South Australia graduate, Imogen Porteous. The Helpmann and Portia Valley Wines are very excited to continue working
on our “Artist Series” wine label.
The Helpmann Academy empower South Australian’s most promising emerging creatives to realise their visions and build sustainable practices. They provide professional development opportunities including grants and awards, fellowships, mentorships, masterclasses and seminars, advisory services and international artist residencies, all tailored specifically for South Australia’s higher education students, graduates and emerging artists.
The relationship between Helpmann Academy and Portia Valley Wines is a wonderful example of an evolving, mutually beneficial partnership that meets the business objectives of both partners and opens up new opportunities for all involved.
A pale colour, with a balance between fresh strawberry and zesty lime, it is very much based on the style that matches with an Australian Summer.
100% Grenache Rosé, The fruit was hand selected by our Winemaker and specially selected for our Grenache Rosé. The quality of Grenache grape was pivotal, as it had to preserve a full intensity and complexity of flavours while containing the dryness and delicacy of structure the wine now has.
After harvesting in the cool of night, the free run juice was drained once the colour and flavour was deemed right by the winemaker. Raspberry and strawberry aromas were sought after with a light attractive pink rose colour also the aim. Careful reductive handling was employed to ensure that the juice was not oxidised and freshness was maintained. Cold settling of the juice at 1oC for a week ensured a crystal clear juice was admitted to fermentation. Different yeast strains were used to add complexity to the wine and to build additional mouthfeel and to add fruitiness. The wine has been held in temperature controlled vessels throughout its life at 10-12oC to maintain freshness and avoid premature aging.
